Everyone on the planet lives within an Energetic House. Most people are unaware of their particular affiliation and often have made a contract to be part of that House unconsciously. Anything can become an Energetic House: clubs, religions, sports teams etc. Some Energetic Houses are about autonomy and freedom and some are group minds which may cause you to lose your space. Every Energetic House has its own set of rules.
The family Energetic House is perhaps one of the most common. The rules for a family Energetic House might include the following: there are certain things we do not talk about, there are certain things that are taboo, there are certain things and places where we can and cannot go energetically. It is an interesting exercise to look at people's realities and identify their Energetic House. Their chosen House will profoundly affect their consciousness because there will be different rules dictating just how much they can be conscious within that House.
Materialism is an Energetic House too. I like to call it the "religion of materialism". Within our culture, everywhere you look, there are pictures and messages which imply that in order to be a valid person, you need to buy this or own that. There are monuments to the religion of materialism, towers in the cities and the malls. The devotees go there to perform the ritual of making a purchase, thus reaffirming their faith in the belief of their House. As Spiritual Warriors, we are aware of the enormity of the materialist House. Much of the population subscribes to this House's beliefs. This Energetic House is, in fact, quite aggressive in recruiting and maintaining membership and is currently the largest Energetic House on Earth. One of basic beliefs is that the materialist way is the best way, and should be the only way. Another aspect of this House is that your worth is based on your assets, and the objective is to always have more. The creed of materialism states that Spirit is not real, body is the focus and there is never enough.
It is important to recognize that the Energetic House of materialism is not bad or wrong. All realities are valid realities. There will however, be a self-identity piece involved if you believe you need material wealth to be valid or worthy. It is possible to live within the materialist culture, but not be a part of the materialist House. Neutrality and awareness are the Spiritual Warrior’s intent. You can choose to be aware of the materialist House, to recognize that many people live there and to accept, without judgment, that this is a valid choice. The most powerful place to exist is in a state of neutrality. The only way you can get to a place of core healing is if you can have love and respect for everyone and everything around you, even if it represents something that you have not chosen for yourself. So even if you have chosen not to live within the religion of materialism it is important to be neutral with it. Judgment is body, not Spirit.
Growing up in Western culture you experience the materialistic Energetic House from a very early age. You are exposed to extensive programming, about how to live in a materialistic society. There is programming on television, on the radio, on billboards, in magazines, and in stores. You are being programmed virtually everywhere you go. Over time, this programming profoundly affects your reality, the way you feel about yourself, how and what you do and the choices you make.
Generally speaking, the religion of materialism does not support spiritual seniority. In fact, it supports body seniority. You can however, make choices neutrally instead of being forced to make choices from the programming from the religion of materialism. Your body will be eager to take on the materialism programming. As a spiritual being you have to remain constantly aware of this fact. It is important to be aware of that programming and not let it get into your personal space, to constantly tune into you as Spirit.
You can make choices from a place of clarity and freedom instead of making a choice because you think you do not have any other option. You can make your own choices. This does not mean that you have to do everything differently. You can do whatever you want. This shift requires letting go of the ownership that that Energetic House has over you. You can actually live in a culture, that is based on the religion of materialism and even get what you want from the culture, without being owned by it.
Remember however, that the quickest way to be owned by any energy is to go into resistance to it. If you start to fight against the system, you are still giving away your power and control. That is just the other side of the same dichotomy. Nothing's changed. "The culture wants me to do this, so I'm going to do the opposite." That is being owned by it as well. Your response is a reaction to that aggressive programming. Even if you choose an alternative route to the 9 to 5ers downtown, you are both owned equally. Being part of the anti-materialism Energetic House is just losing your space to the religion of materialism by being in resistance to it.
Imagine what it is like to transcend the dichotomy, not to be owned by the religion of materialism and not to be in resistance to it either. There is an unbelievable sense of freedom that goes with that choice. With spiritual authority, you choose. You have to let your body know that it is okay to let go. You have been exposed to materialistic programming your whole life, and even if you did not buy it overtly and become a rabid consumer, you probably took on the message that you were supposed to be a certain way. You will find freedom when you are not playing either side of the dichotomy - materialism or anti-materialism. Only then are you off the dichotomy.
